About Us


The Psychological Services Center (PSC) is a community-based behavioral and mental health clinic for the Clinical Science Ph.D. program. Dr. Lee Cooper is the faculty director and can be contacted at ldcooper@vt.edu or 540-231-7709.  As the training clinic for a nationally accredited program (PCSAS and APA), our goal is to utilize the best available treatments to improve the functioning, health, and well-being of our clients. We provide individual, couple, family, and group therapies as well as assessment services for adults, adolescents, and children. The PSC also serves as a training and research center for assessment, intervention, and prevention. Clinic therapists treat clients with approaches validated by research and matched to the individual needs of the clients.

Participant Information

Services

The Psychological Services Center offers a variety of mental health services to any member of the community. Our assessment and treatment techniques are empirically supported to be effective and safe.

Child/Adolescent Assessment and Adult Assessment

The Psychological Services Center also conducts a wide array of assessments for psychological and psycho-educational purposes for adults, children, and older adolescents. We conduct full psychological assessment batteries (cognitive, memory, achievement, attentional, and emotional testing), along with a full report and feedback. We can consult with parents and schools about accommodations.

For families interested in a comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for children and adolescents age 16 years or younger, please contact the Child Study Center at childstudycenter@gmail.com or 540-231-8276. For individuals or families interested in a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation for adolescents and adults age 17 or older, please contact the Psychological Services Center at brlipes@vt.edu or 540-231-6914.

Adult Therapy

We provide both short- and long-term therapy on an outpatient basis. We work with the full range of mental and behavioral health conditions. Our services can focus on individual or couples therapy for adults. Our specialty is cognitive-behavioral therapy. We utilize empirically supported treatments that are effective and safe.   

Child, Adolescent, and Family Therapy

We provide child, adolescent, and family therapy. Our services can focus on individual therapy for children and adolescents, parenting support and parenting training, school consultations, and family therapy.

Consultations

The Psychological Services Center is committed to the promotion, dissemination, and implementation of evidence-based knowledge and expertise regarding prevention, assessment, intervention, and overall well-being between our clinic and the community. Over the years, we have provided presentations, workshops, consultation, and programs to agencies, school systems, and businesses.

Autism Clinic

The mission of the Virginia Tech Autism Clinic is to improve the quality of life for individuals with autism and their families through assessment, intervention, education, and research directed towards effective treatment and prevention.

Fees

The Psychological Services Center operates on a fee-for-service basis. Our types and methods of services are clearly described above. We have a standard therapy and assessment fee for adults and youth, and for VT staff and students, but is also based on a fee scale that adjusts depending on your individual financial situation. We do not accept third-party payers as a form of payment. If you would like to discuss your specific situation, have any questions regarding your fee or payment, or want to request a fee adjustment or refund, please contact our Office Manager Brenda Lipes at brlipes@vt.edu or 540-231-6914.

Fees will not be charged on requests for or implementation of an accommodation in relation to any of our services.  We are committed to making your experience an accessible one and will work with you to fulfill all reasonable requests at no expense to you.
